The Guild’s Members’ Websites Project (MWP) team plans to host a Google hangout for our users of the TNG website application. This is scheduled for Saturday, January 21st, the third Saturday of the month. The time of day, determined by time zones, will be announced by next week. The purpose is to introduce your TNG team, to have a live and interactive video gathering of fellow TNG users, and to help with some of the questions from our users. This session will run for only one hour and will be a test to find out the interests of our members.
We want this video session to be useful to you, our TNG contributors, so we are asking you to send us your questions via the comment section of this article. You can use your access code for this WordPress site. Keeping in mind the anticipated audience, we are looking for topics at the basic entry level at this time. We do want to hear from TNG participants who are having difficulties with the fundamentals of TNG. Regardless, send through your comments anyway, and we shall try to answer them in future hangouts.
How do I get to participate? If you have done Google hangouts before, then you have your webcam, mic/speaker and hangout app, ready to go. If you don’t have the gear or have not done a hangout before; no problem as it will be video-streamed live on YouTube. The session will be recorded and then posted on YouTube for later viewing.
The hangouts have room for nine live participants, plus the moderator, but an unlimited count of viewers on YouTube. The hangout access URL will be posted shortly before the start of the hangout. Also, the hangout will be publicized on the Guild’s Google page and Facebook page.
So, please send your TNG questions and comments to us via the comment box. The TNG team will endeavor to put together an engaging agenda for you. “See” you on the 21st.
I have a custom event for “Find a grave” where I record the unique 6-7 digit code they allocate to a grave.
I have tested embedding this as a hyperlink in my Detail field :-
115799270
which works nicely but has two drawbacks :-
1. It is a bit long winded to get entered (I cut and paste the previous constructed link and then overwrite the number)
2. It risks being invalidated by the target site changing URL (domain OR parameters)
What do others do? Is there scope for TNG supporting a “hyperlink” type field for this and others (Facebook is another where I record a unique key) so that we can define once the link required and not have to enter HTML repeatedly into our detail fields
Mike
Go to the wiki page of TNG Tutorial Articles and Videos for ideas. Yes, your pictures, or image media, can be imported into TNG, your .jpg and .png files. Your PDF files are usually not images, normally they are documents. Images are usually saved in the Photos collection and documents usually go into the Document collection. The articles will guide you.
Images do not automatically link to the correct person. Again, the articles will show you how to do the linkage.
An article is needed for handling the Guild logo on the homepage. In the meantime, go ahead with your images and then we can tackle the logo.
How do I get my pitures (.jpg & .PDF)into TNG? Will they automatically link to the correct person?
Also how do I add a Picture (Guild logo) to my home page?
I would like to limit the amount of information available to all & sundry. Short of flagging everyone as “private” or forcing a logon for every user, I cannot find an elegant solution.
I love TNG with one exception… I would like to see the source/citation function updated and expanded significantly.
