The Home Page

Adding a Home Page Image:

The place to add an image to the home page is near the top of this same TNG Admin page titled Setup >> Configuration >> Template Settings, at the label titled Main image (home page):
First, you have to have a reasonably sized image available on your computer ready to upload.  By reasonably sized, it is recommended that initially this image not be more than 500 by 500 pixels.  However, the size really depends on where this image is placed on the home page, and how much space is available for it.  This will be different for each Template.

To begin, click the Change button to the right of the Main image (home page): window.  Two additional buttons now show up:

You should click the Choose File button to upload an image from your computer.
Point to note:  It is STRONGLY recommended that you use an image file name that includes your ONS surname in it.  If it does not have that surname now, please make that change before uploading it to your home page.   The reason for this is explained below in the next Points to note: section.

Clicking the Choose File button opens the file menu on your computer so you can navigate to the image you want, and select it to upload the image to TNG.  The file name should now be showing in the Main image (home page): window, preceded by the file sub-folder name img/, which is where this image has now been placed.  Finally, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to enable your image choice.

In the next section below the window showing the image file name, labeled Main image caption:, you have the opportunity to create a caption for your home page image.  This caption will show up in italics font on your home page right below the image.  More information on formatting text can be found in the Changing Your Text Box part of this tutorial, below. When you have finished adding your caption, click the Save button at the bottom of the page, to activate the text.
Point to Note: The Main Image caption appears on Template 4 and some others, but not on all templates.

Points to note:
The sub-folder where this home page image has been placed is associated specifically with the Template you are using, in this case Template 4.  Because of the way TNG has been installed, everyone is using the same software, and everyone shares the same Templates and Template folders.  This means that everyone using this Template 4 and who is using a home page image has placed their images in the same sub-folder where your image has now been placed.
If you click on the Select button instead of the Choose File button to the right of the Main image (home page): label, this will open a window showing a list of the images in the templates/template4/img/ sub-folder, or the sub-folder for whatever Template you have chosen.  Here you can select any of these images to use on your home page.  With your ONS surname on your home page image file name, it should be very easy to find.  Without good file name labeling, people will not know what images pertain to what TNG sites, and over time this will become more and more difficult to distinguish.  There may even be errors if more than one person uploads a home page image titled Home Page Image.
You should NEVER delete any image from this img/ sub-folder, because it may not be your own!
Another important point to mention here is this img/ sub-folder for each Template is a DIFFERENT file sub-folder than where, in the future, you will be uploading all Media you want to add to your website in connection with your study.
